10. Experiment with your Hair
You must have been adhering to school rules and tying up your hair in plait all your life. College days are the time to experiment and go crazy. Experiment with your hair, and that does not mean just the hairstyles, but also the hair color. Try reds, blues, greens and pinks and other funky colors that you can carry confidently. Check out YouTube tutorials for easy hairstyles that you can pull off in minutes. Messy buns, braided look, beach waves and curls are some of the looks that you can try for your first day at college.
Accessorize form an important part of college fashion and brighten up even the dullest of the outfits. Your outfit can be taken to a whole new level just with the right kind of accessorizing. Junk jewelery available at Janpath, Kamla Nagar and Sarojini Nagar markets is going to be your savior here. Team up a neckpiece or a choker with western outfits. Trendy and funky bags and bracelets also go well with jeans and t-shirts. With ethnic outfits, you can swear by beautiful jhumkis, earrings, anklets and bangles. To look your best, the right kind of footwear is also essential. Team up Kohlapuri chappals or Punjabi Juttis with ethnic outfits, and flats, wedges, sandals and ballerinas with western outfits.
8. Palazzo pants
Palazzo pants are long trousers worn by women that have a wide leg flaring out from the waist. They were donned by Deepika Padukone in the movie Piku, so you must know what we’re talking about. Palazzo pants are the trendsetting outfit, which is easy to wear and carry. You can team up your plain palazzo pants with long printed kurtis or even crop tops. Printed palazzo pants can be teamed up with plain crop tops, kurtis or spaghetti tops. They can also be teamed up with a nice stole/scarf. It is all about how confidently you carry the outfit.
7. Go Bohemian
The term ‘Bohemian’ is applied to people who live unconventional lifestyles. The original Bohemians were known to be travelers from Central Europe. Bohemian style is characterized by floral prints, tie and dye and paisley. A head scarf or turban style head wrap are also characteristics of the Bohemian style. Feather earrings, maxi dress, embellished belts, flared jeans, fringed cross-body bag and all things unusual and eccentric symbolize the Bohemian look. Bohemians usually pay attention to details and opt for earthy and natural colors. Be the Boho Chic for your first day at college and you’re sure to make heads turn.
6. Ripped Denims
Ripped denims are back in trend and make you look sultry with a bit of an edge. If you have a pair of jeans that has faded, rip it off and voila! You have brand new jeans. Or when you go shopping for jeans, pick up a ripped one. The distressed or ripped denim look is a very casual and relaxed look. So you must keep the occasion in mind while donning them. Avoid wearing distressed jeans on formal occasions; they look fine on casual college days. If you are to wear ripped denims on your first day at college, avoid overexposing. If your denims are too ripped, wear funky tights under them for more style and the coverage, of course.
5. Go formal with Shirts
While shirts do make you look put together, they don’t have to be necessarily formal. A nice checkered shirt is a wardrobe essential for everyone. They can e worn in various ways and have a very autumnal vibe. You can team up the shirt with distressed jeans or leave it unbuttoned over a funky t-shirt and a pair of cool denims. Unbuttoned shirts look cool if they are a little oversized. Natural hued shirts can also be paired up with pastel colored, flowy skirts. You can also wear boots with shirt and denims or shirt and skirt with the essential Bohemian look.
4. Crop Tops
Crop tops are easily the hottest summer trend this season. Crop tops were a rage in 1980s and are now back in fashion. With time, crop tops have also evolved majorly. Crop tops can be teamed up with skirts, pants, denims, straight skirts or even dungarees. However, to look perfect in the crop top look, you must keep certain points in minds. The length of the crop top should be appropriate for wearing it to the college. If your crop top is too short, team it up with a high-waist jeans or skirt. Try loose crop tops, they needn’t be skintight always. You can also do temporary tie-ups on denim crop tops for the perfect casual look.
3. Patialas and Juttis
Patiala Pants and Punjabi Juttis teamed with ethnic earrings and jhumkis are a personal favourite college going look. This is something that I donned almost every other day to college. Patiala pants can be teamed with funky tees or short kurtis. Cotton is the best suited fabric. Team up a printed Patiala pant with a plain short kurti, or plain Patiala pants with printed kurtis. Try bright, vibrant colors. This look comes out best when teamed up with Kohlapuri chappals or Punjabi Juttis. To further accentuate your look, wear a bindi and dark black kohl in your eyes.
2. Statement Tees
T-shirts are probably the most comfortable outfit. They can be teamed up with practically anything, from jeans to skirts to palazzo pants or Patiala pants. Donning cool statement tees on the first day of college can prove to be a perfect idea. Find the perfect statement/message tee, something that defines you, or something that you religiously believe in. Team up the tee with a pair of ripped jeans and heels and a cool, funky bag to go with it. You can also wear tees that depict quotes from your favourite movies/novels. Unleashing the fan in you might help you find friends with similar interests on the first day of college itself!
1. Be Yourself!
However you dress up for your first day at college, the trick is to be yourself. Do not blindly copy trends. Be confident in whatever you wear and carry it off like no one can do it better than you. Don’t forget to wear a smile. Even the best of outfits can’t make you look good if you don’t smile. Don’t be apprehensive to experiment with new trends and styles, for who knows, you might be the next trendsetter in college!
