Beaches have something extraordinary about them – maybe it’s the feel of the sand on our bare feet, the waves tingling our toes, the sun kissing our skin or just watching the three spheres of life meet. There are 1,000 of beaches across the world – so different, but yet so similar. Every beach has its own special feel. Playa Jardín, Canary Islands

Situated in Tenerife, Canary Islands, the ‘garden beach’ was designed by Puerto de La Cruz’s local artist, César Manrique. It is a complex of waterfalls and beautiful gardens along with the iconic black sand. If you look a little further, you might also happen to see Spain’s highest point, Mount Teide.

The lore has it that the beach was formerly a white sand beach before a nearby construction of a train line exposed it to volcanic rock sand. If anything, it gave the beach a gorgeous makeover.

Punalu’u Beach, Hawaii


You know a beach is famous when you have to put up signs that ask visitors to stop pocketing its sand for souvenirs. This beach on Big Island was formed when the still-active volcano Mauna Loa erupted.
