  • Possibly one of the worst composed articles I have read in years. The subject matter is stimulating, but the grammar and writing style is almost illegible. If someone who actually understood the English language had written this, then it would have actually been enjoyable.

    • I disagree with some of their choices, too. Why the fuck would you have Jack the Ripper on this list when he only killed five people?

      • I think Jack the Ripper is on this list because of the way he mutilated and killed his victims… And for the psychological terror towards police. He did send letters to the police where he was bragging. Together with one of the letters called the “From Hell” letter, which allegedly was from him he sent half the kidney belonging to Catherine Eddowes. The Ripper said in the letter that he ate the other half…just an example. You shouldn’t say he only killed five people.. The number of victims is actually unknown.

        • Canonically, though, there are five murders attributed to Jack the Ripper, whether or not you think there may have been more. There are also more recent serial killers who killed victims in similar ways – Richard Trenton Chase, for example – who didn’t make this list, even though he killed more people (six).

          • True… I think they should have replaced Jack the Ripper with Dr. H. H. Holmes. He confessed to 20 murders, 9 of which is confirmed and up to 200 is estimated… as far as I know. Do please correct me if I’m wrong.

        • I think he’s on the list because just about everybody has at least heard of him, whether they know much about him, The many killers that have “Ripper” in their nicknames is because “Jack” was a well known killer.

      • Jack the Ripper is the most famous serial killer in history. Why? It isn’t about how many he killed. I would say it is because of the following factors
        1) He was never caught
        2) Was the original modern serial killer _ remember this happened in the 1880’s
        3) His letters to the Police were legendary. He was the original psychopath
        4) So many theories as to who the killer might be from a member of royalty to a doctor to a butcher..countless theories but never resolved
        5) The way he butchered and cut up his victims. This was 100 years before the likes of Ted Bundy and his copy cat ilk

      • There are so many more that could’ve been on this list too. Gaskins, Manuel, Gacy to name a few. Even “The Yorkshire Ripper” Sutcliffe

  • Why isn’t Dr. Herman Howard Holmes on this list… and as far as I know, there is no way of knowing with absolute clarity that Elizabeth Bathory was guilty of murder or a victim of mass betrayal. So I do not think it’s fair to include her on this list.

  • MAny more interestig serrial killers and many more modern ones that one could write about without having to resort to the o h so well known Elizabeth Bathory, and the incredibly so well known its almost boring Jack the Ripper. Come on……………

  • The exact number of Elizabeth Báthory’s victims is unknown, and even contemporary estimates differed greatly. During the trial, Szentes and Ficko reported 36 and 37 victims respectively, during their periods of service. The other defendants estimated a number of 50 or higher. Many Sárvár castle personnel estimated the number of bodies removed from the castle at between 100 and 200. One witness, a woman named Susannah, who spoke at the trial mentioned a book in which Báthory supposedly kept a list of a total of over 650 victims, and this number has passed into legend. As the number of 650 could not be proven, the official count remained at 80.
